How to Wash Your Car During Hosepipe Bans

We've seen it coming, now it's official. Yorkshire Water has just announced a hosepipe ban.

We certainly have our own opinions on this decision, especially since water bills in Yorkshire have increased by an average of 29% this year, sewage is being pumped directly into rivers, and billions of pounds have been borrowed to directly pay shareholder dividends!

Despite this, today they have announced a hosepipe ban in Yorkshire, coming into effect on 11th July 2025. They are threatening a £1,000 fine if caught flaunting the rules, so it's a bit of a risk if you decide to ignore it.

Many car owners are now wondering how to keep their cars clean without using running water. The good news is you don’t have to sacrifice cleaning your car, just because you can’t use your hosepipe.

The waterless wash method, although perhaps controversial with some detailers, can be the perfect short term solution.

This product is strong enough to clean brake dust off alloys, but delicate enough to remove stains from upholstery and carpets.

How to use APC:

1. Spray APC liberally onto dirty areas like wheels, lower panels, badges, rubber trims, or even upholstery, mats, or carpets.

2. Allow a few seconds for the cleaner to break down grime.

3. Gently wipe with a clean microfibre cloth to remove.

4. Buff any residue with another clean microfibre

✨ Step 2: Waterless Wash & Wax with Ultimate QD

Squid Ink Ultimate QD is your secret weapon for the waterless wash itself. It's our high-gloss quick detailer and liquid wax in one. It safely encapsulates and lifts light dust and road grime, whilst leaving behind a slick protective layer. As long as you're careful, use plenty of product, and clean microfibres, this method won't scratch or swirl your paintwork.

Our Ultimate QD was actually developed to be used as a waterless product, and is used by many supercar garages in the UAE, where water supplies can be limited.

The slight caveat is we don't recommend using any waterless product if your car is caked in mud, sand, or anything abrasive.

How to use Squid Ink Ultimate QD as a waterless product:

1. Working one panel at a time, spray Ultimate QD generously onto the surface.

2. Carefully wipe with a clean, plush microfibre cloth using gentle, straight-line motions.

3. Fold to a fresh side of the cloth regularly, use more than one cloth if needed.

4. Buff with a second dry microfibre towel for a stunning, streak-free shine.

🔍 Step 3: Crystal Clear Windows with Crystalline

Dirty glass can ruin an otherwise spotless finish. Squid Ink Crystalline is a wipe-on, wipe-off glass cleaner designed to deliver crystal-clear results.

How to use Crystalline:

1. Lightly mist Crystalline onto your glass or directly onto a dedicated glass cloth.

2. Wipe in circular motions to lift dirt and fingerprints.

3. Flip the cloth when needed.

4. Buff with another dry glass cloth for a streak-free, glare-free finish.

🛞 Step 4: Dress Your Tyres with Squid Ink Satyre

No freshly cleaned car is complete without dressed tyres. Squid Ink Satyre restores that rich satin look in seconds - no water needed.

How to use Satyre:

1. Tyres can be scrubbed with APC or Citrus first if a deep clean is needed.

2. Apply a few sprays to a tyre applicator or cloth.

3. Wipe evenly around the tyre wall, avoiding the tread.

4. Let it sit for a few minutes and wipe away any excess for a natural, dry finish.
